The Gap of Dunloe

The Gap of Dunloe

This video captures the magic and breathtaking beauty of  The Gap of Dunloe as seen from the saddle. On this occasion the water of the 3 lakes was so still that it mirrored the mountains behind. This is very unusual. The three lakes are, Black Lake, Cushvalley Lake & Augher Lake, with the latter featuring as the mirror in this video.

The two large stones shown in the still above are known locally as The Two Hags. It is at this point that the Gap road is at its steepest. It will test every cyclist’s strength, not least the peleton in this 1986 Nissan Classic image from the Graham Watson archive.
