Ballaghbeama Gap in Kerry is a hauntingly beautiful place at any time of the year. It’s usually very windy at the top of the pass, but on the odd occasion when the wind drops you are immersed in silence and calm. The high mountain walls of Derrynablaha & Derreeny either side block out the world, and a peace falls on the area. Only the trickle of a stream and a few sheep are there to keep you company.
I have cycled this mountain gap on many dry and sunny days, but it’s often in the wet and wind that Ballaghbeama is at its most beautiful.
